Prepping for Fall

Here we are, mid way through summer 2011 which only can mean one thing, it is time to start prepping for fall 2011. Fall is truly one of my favorite times of the year, finding out what the look is, where to find it, and of course all the shopping.

Prep, has been a long lasting fall tradition, that to so many, time and time again, have created and recreated the Idea of the prep look. What is it about fall and the prep lifestyle we tend to admire so much? Maybe the idea of knowledge, or seeing your collegiate friends again, or a childhood story that is coming to a grand end.

One of the other major fall traditions is of course back to school. As bummed as we may be that summer is just around the corner of coming to  a close, and the idea of going back to the books is maybe the reason why we try so hard to over achieve with the looks, so much more fun, do you find?

Well, now that we are on the topic of books, summer 2011 films where definitely one for them, and of course a milestone ending of a 10 year saga that originated as book.

It’s hard to believe that Harry Potter, our beloved academic supper hero, is finally over. After years of Hogwarts and Patronum charms, we are at the grand finale of an era so embodied in our childhood that it may be a little difficult to finally accept the fact that its all over.

To most, the story was an adventure, and to most Fashionistas, it was a classic look given an adventures twist. Looking the part may not be as costume based as many would think.

Fall tweeds, plaids, and stripes adorned with collegiate crests of knowledge seeking euphoria, has made for timeless fashion moments, and it seems that the last visit to Hogwarts school is thrusting us  forward to prep our way through fall 2011.

Rugby Ralph Lauren, in True Lauren form, is guiding our way back to school with a smart look, and maybe just a little magic attached. Pre-fall has finally fallen on Rugby RL, the tweeds and plaids are back.

Whether it be Hogwarts or Harvard, Rugby most definitely will be our source for all things prep this fall. To make matters more exciting, the Rugby Style blog will feature bloggers and stylists picking and choosing the pieces to help us look our best on the paths leading to our dormitories.

The summer is almost at a close, and it’s the end of an era for a childhood hero that with out a doubt is reinforcing our fall look one last time, and Prepping us for the adventures to come.

Editor-IN-Chic

Lisa Petty Shopping Editor, The Feast DFW: Sylvia Elzafon:The Feast

So many things have been said and seen in the fashion world, when speaking of those ever elusive editors, or what the industry likes to call our Dictators. From the cold stares of Anna Wintour, to the quick one liners of  Nina Garcia, there is for sure no shortage of opinions and attitudes  in the world of Fashion Publication. No matter what city you may find yourself in, the Hierarchy of Editors in all things Fabulous are all present ready to attack.

However in Dallas,  the “IT” City, according to those who are Holier Than Thou, there is one editor that seems to have it all, the eye, the look, the words, and the know it all, talk it all of who’s who in Dallas.

Lisa Petty,  is known around as the IT Girl for all things shopping, from High End Designer Boutiques to  Consignment Couture. Currently the Shopping Editor at NBC’s The FEAST.COM, a platform  that is equally addicting  as the woman who is Fashioning the art of shopping in Dallas.

Our paths crossed when Petty, was invited to speak to  the Students of The Art Institute of Dallas, and I’m always a fan of a good academic setting, a mini MASTER CLASS if you will.

The Art of Communication is an art form that is a  crucial  lesson to be learned , especially for the Public Relations class in which Petty was  now head Master. Fashion after all is the number one form of Communication on this tiny little globe we call Earth. It takes talent to decipher the messages of fashion,   But it takes a Master to create them.

Later on the in the week, the exchange of emails, shopping ideas, and talk as real as the Housewives of everywhere, I was beginning to notice something about Petty that lacked in  many  of the editors who  have come to be known as legendary.

The idea of an editor in a decision making position may to most come across as cold or in possession of stone heart, after all doesn’t The Devil Wear Prada. Well Petty may indeed be in Prada, however she is no Devil.

A shopping date was a must ,and in action, after all given all the VERSACE buzz I was indeed on the hunt for some Vintage Gianni. The privilege of being invited to the inner circle of shops, that Petty herself has given a blessing, was  a for sure  date that couldn’t be missed.

The ladies of UpTown Consignment, welcomed  Petty into their Boutique, which in all actuality is a Fashion House of Worship, From Chanel, Gucci, and the Glorious Gianni Versace, were all displayed and ready for the sought after“Petty Purchase”.

The  Countless amount of Couture present, drifted me into a sort of hypnotic state. Petty quickly grabs my arm to turn me in the direction of a Cocktail Cavalli dress in the window. From that moment on, my probing  agenda of Dallas gossip, had been replaced by my new Fashion Femme Fatal of a Friend.

Anna Wintour of  Vogue once said, that many people who may not understand fashion tend to fear it, or put it down. It would come as normal for a person like myself to Be naturally fearful of  meeting someone of Lisa’s position.

To be  honest, the thought was more than crossing my mind when making my way to the our shopping date. However I soon realized that the passion for fashion  that was shared between us not only broke the ice, it melted right before our eyes.

Lisa Petty, clearly posses a niche among the editors that make up and dictate our fashion world. The clear down to earth  and genuine passion, of not only informing people where to shop, but the ability to bring down the fear in order educate on the fun of fashion, is a master message that all Dallas Fashionistas  are “FEASTING” on, thanks to our  it girl, who is Editing our fashion perspective!

A piece written by Petty, on  TheFeast.com, when read  becomes a curiosity about this industry  that one cant help but explore. Which  is the for-sure  reason Petty’s following is as strong as steel stilettos.

However, it  is not only her work that tends to fascinate, her ever chic presence at events and fashion shows not only help with the Critique of the runway, it Compliments it as well,

Which was true of the Christian Siriano  show, which featured the 5th anniversary of The Fresh Faces of Fashion for the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas,  featured in Dallas Modern Luxury Magazine, Hosted by Park Place Motocars.

Petty, not only was she ready to work the show, she was ready to work the runway  in her larger than life statuesque glamour.

The message here, Fashion as fearful as some may think it may be , Lisa Petty makes it all FUN. A true style  star that is surely becoming an Icon.

In fact, The icon persona is already in the hands of our chic editor, In the coming weeks, The Launch of Petty’s brand new Site, will give Dallasonians a platform where our Editor-in all things Fashion, Fierce and Fabulous, will now be Editor-In-Chief.

We have been Feasting on Lisa Petty’s words for quite sometime, and now with the launch of the new site, one can say it is  time for Dessert! Along with a sought after team of writers talking all things Dallas, it’s clearly on its way to become  a Dallas guide to Fashion.

From the students of the Art Institute of Dallas, to  the runway both on and off,   and of course to the fashion Birkin Boys, like myself. Lisa Petty is leaving a mark that is unmatched by many of those editors. One can say she is Editing the Ideas of our fashion outlook, Fashion Aha moments, and messages that is being mastered by our very own Editor-in-Chic.

Novel-Tee

Summer 2011, has a trend in its hands, that to most would be considered a “novel” idea, groundbreaking, or even a tad modern. But in all reality, the Novelty trend has always been around. The brands that everyone has come to love, gracing t-shirts and bags is a true American staple, perhaps as timeless as Ralph Lauren’s pique knit Polo’s.

Fashionistas around the globe, as hard as it may be to admit, have at least one novel chic Tee in their closet. Hell, we may even have several, maybe even dozens. “I’m a sucker for a good Super Hero or two”.

From Coca-Cola, to Bands, or even any images that conjure up a childhood gone by, The Novel side to any company in branding themselves into fashion is not only a trend, its as classic as Coca-Cola. After all what’s a brand without a great line up of merchandise?

But, really what is it about the Novel approach to fashion that we all seem to come to love? Is it the product that graces the cotton shirt, or is the persona of the project that one cant help but wear, rather than only using it, or speaking of it.

Fashion and its messages never seek to amaze, My Pepsi t-shirt makes for a great Sunday Funday, and makes for even greater profit for the Pepsi name. I cant help but wonder, have we become so brand integrated that we are now wearing the commercials themselves, Its clear that the obvious endorsement of the project is clearly stated in the wearer.

Like it or not, brands have essentially become an image of cool, of course being image savvy is a lifestyle Which, to most lifestyle is the only true definition of fashion. You are what you wear, Fashion is the outer most expression of our likes and dislikes. Maybe the product that we tend to promote on our sleeve, “literally”, is as much a part of our lifestyle as what we choose to wear.

From Marvel comics, to Pepsi, or (those cant help but want), Team Jacob T’s, The novel T-shirts of yesterday and today are setting us up for tomorrow’s Novel Revolution.

Dolce & Gabbana for S/S 2011, showed Disney Chic T’s that for sure will be seen in City Street corners from New York to Milan soon. H&M as well took a piece of that Disney Dynasty Cash Cake (did I mention Disney now owns Marvel) Superhero’s tees are as equally trend setting.

Novelty, as trendy as it always has been, or as consumer driven brand addicts we may seem to be when wearing them, bottom line, who wouldn’t want a Captain America T-shirt!

The Novel Chic Tee, will continue to interest us, Marvel us, hell, maybe even wear us one day. In today’s fashion trend, The Novel-TEE , is a fashion staple that is always fun to see on every chic city street

FOR THE SAKE OF Nostalgia, and all the Pepsi talk, i  must plug the reason i own several PEPSI Novel-Tees, come on how can you not want to go to the PEPSI STORE after this!

Viva La Donatella

As if all the Versace News wasn’t enough, Donatella Versace, much like our Lady of Gaga, has done it again.   The world of  Excess that is Versace, has finally made a move that is a full circle moment for our lovely Donatella. The house  of the Versace, this November will launch a collection designer specifically for H&M.

Last night the tweets were on fire, and every major local fashion editor, shopping editor, as well as a few fellow bloggers, could not keep back as they contacted everyone, shared and liked on every social platform possible. There is no doubt that this is going to bigger than big.

Which big is great, considering that Dallas, is to open a new two level H&M store at NorthPark Center. The city has already been on fire since the Versace Boutique opened at the very same location. Dallas, for some time now has been in worship at the house of Versace. From the Dallas Museum of Art, to The symphony Hall, and maybe a MAV Game or two, Versace is everywhere!

The launch of the H&M line is “ICONIC” is  to have the studded glory of  the Late, and beloved, Gianni Versace.  The collection is slowly coming  to be that the Resurrection of the house is turning out to be a Reinvention for an all new generation of 20 somethings girls, now with H&M in mix.

As the say, Rome wasn’t built in a day, well in till Donatella Versace of course. Seeming to be since the  F/W 2012 collection,  Opening of the Palazzo Versace Hotel in Dubai,  Lady going GAGA herself of the house, and now H&M, in just a few months Donatella Versace has snagged that spot light, and she looks greater than ever. “As we say, Viva La Donatella”

Gianni’s Glory

Gianni Versace, with one name can conger up many things, from silk Baroque shirts,Greek Mythology, and one city, Miami. The Versace name, in no doubt, has always had the allure of over the top lifestyles that only Caesar himself could have lived. Through the Vibrancy, the Vitally and of course the Vision, that is Versace, we still in all respect crave the lifestyle that our Gianni and Donatella have shown us year after year.

Fall-winter 2011/2012, Donatella Versace showed a collection that to many coined it the Resurrection of Gianni Versace himself. The black and gold motif adorned with the ever-famous Medusa medallions from head to toe, was undoubtedly the mark of our opulent and missed designer. The sense that the DNA of the brand was slowly coming fourth to become yet again a trend in the present day fashion, was as exciting as hearing that Versus Versace as well had its own resurrection. The air is rich with Versace, it almost feels like its 1992 and the excess of the 90’s are exactly what this post recession country needs.

Donatella Versace, post the demise of her brother Gianni, took the rein and transformed, Gianni’s Versace, into her very own. Through the years, Donatella had stayed true to her brother’s vision and kept the brand a force in the industry.

The 90’s are just in that grey area of the past, that may not exactly be vintage, and maybe a tad to soon to revamp, but I cant help but wonder, are we in such need of excess that we may actually be rushing the trend back to our wardrobes? After all if you want a life of excess only one could have supplied us with it, Gianni.

So it comes as no surprise that our lady of gaga has done it again. The mistress of fashion is tapping into the Versace Archive and re-personifying the image of luster and over the top excess that can only push us to the edge of glory. It has been rumored that Gaga’s Versace re-invention took a lot, after all the Gianni Versace Archive 1992-1997 has not been opened in 14 years.

The Versace medusa medallions and the gold studded leather vests were the featured looks in Atelier Versace spring summer 1992 collection, however Gaga’s new video is not the only Versace visuals she so eloquently fashioning. For months now our Lady has been seen around many of city, all over the world, showing off those medallions, crystalized seashells and the gold baroque silk shirts. The Archive has been opened and it seems that a Versace craze is happening.

The excess is back, the opulence that only one man could have envisioned and a sister to adorn it. Maybe Donatella Versace was teasing us with her most recent collection. What this means in fashion, who knows?, but the over the top glitz and glam of Gianni’s Versace is back, and our lady of gaga is pushing us right over the edge.
